Jeremy Otth & Laura Keats (Southern California)
Jeremy and Laura are 2008 National Shag Champions the have earned Championships and top
placements at many National events such as: National Jitterbug Championships, American
Classic Balboa Championships, NorthWest Bal-Swing Championships, Ultimate Lindy Showdown
and the US Open to name a few. They have also traveled to teach all across the country and
around the world both individually and as a couple, including jobs on both US Coasts,
Montpellier (FR), London, Paris, Munich, Uppsala, (Sweden) and Tokyo.
Johnny "Blue Jeans" & Jenna Chalmers (San Francisco)
Johnny and Jenna have taught sold out Collegiate Shag
classes throughout San Francisco! Together, Johnny and Jenna took 2nd Place at the
National Jitterbug Championships in 2007 & 2008 in the Pro Collegiate Shag Division.
In 2008, they taught in Munich, Germany at the Rock That Swing Festival. They have also
been in movies and many televised events. Johnny also hosts the San Francisco Collegiate
Shag Jam Championships in California.
Michael Sailor Mizgalski (Southern California)
Mikes fascination with shag began when he saw some friends practicing it at The
Derby in Hollywood. In 1999 after months of practicing and studying old movie clips of
shaggers in the 1930s, Mike entered his first shag competition at Camp Hollywood in
what was then called the shag jam and won third place! Since then Mike has
taught around the country, along with his friend Tip West, co founded the popular swing
club Swing Pit and has won other competitions including first place in Camp Hollywood 2001
with Tise Chao and most recently Mike and Sylvia Skylar became the National Jitterbug Shag
Champions of 2006.
Minn Vo & Corinna Acosta (Los Angeles)
Minn and Corrina are one of L.A.'s favorite competitors and without a doubt one of the
most versatile performers in swing dancing today. Inducted in the California Swing Dance
Hall Of Fame in 2004, they excel in all areas of Vernacular Jazz Dance, including
Collegiate Shag, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Air Steps, and both have extensive
influence on the contemporary movement of urban street dance. Minn and Corrina are the
1999 Camp Hollywood Collegiate Shag Champions.
John Ratto & Charissa Ratto (San Francisco)
John and Charissa Ratto have been dancing for 7 years. Traveling with a professional dance
troupe, they have given instruction and been a part of performances all over the state.
They entered the competitive dance world 2 years ago and have continued to develop into
advanced dancers. Some of their accomplishments include: 2007 San Francisco Shag Jam
champions and 3rd at the 2007 National Jitterbug Champions in the Pro Collegiate Shag
Division, as well as winning several local competitions. In their passion for dancing,
John and Charissa hope to help everyone learn and enjoy this historic dance and keep swing
alive. Their focus for students is to become comfortable quickly and enjoy themselves on a
social dance floor.
